THE LOW ANTHEM - CHARLIE DARWIN NEW RELEASE DATE (12/02/09)
Unfortunately there will be a slight delay on The Low Anthem - Charlie Darwin release due to problems in the production line. The new release date will be 23/02/09
Today is a very exciting day in the history of End of the Road Records, it's the release date of the second album by one of our artists - Woodpigeon!!! We are so chuffed that we've decided to include a limited edition bonus CD called Houndstooth Europa with the first 500 copies of the album.
Here's what the press has been saying:
Sunday Times: **** "it's bloody marvellous" Guardian: **** "an inspiring meditation on exile and return" Mojo: **** "seductive" Q: **** "melodic and affecting" The Times: **** "lovely" Metro: **** "this second album reveals the gold within" Uncut: "rich acoustic chambre pop with quietly barbed lyrics" The Fly "just the kind of warm Canadian broth the melancholic doctor ordered" The Independent "moments of magic" The Observer "well worth investigating"
You can get the album from our online SHOP, or from Rough Trade as well as all other record stores... even HMV, Amazon etc.
Happy times!
What better way to say Happy Birthday to Charles Darwin than to release a beautiful 7" single on his 200th anniversary, 12th Feb 2009?!
The song Charlie Darwin is a beautiful piece of lilting Americana, built around a minimal guitar, soaring three part harmonies and Ben Knox Miller's delicate falsetto vocals.
The sleeve of the limited 7" is hand painted by the band, making it even more special.
We hope you like them as much as we do! We think they're magical and definately one of the hottest tips for 2009!
The single is available through our shop and will also be stocked at Rough Trade and various other independent record stores.
Woodpigeon are currently recording back home in Canada, after supporting Calexico on their UK/IRE shows, as well as doing their own headline shows both here and in Europe, and radio sessions including John Kennedy (Xfm) and Steve Lamacq (6 Music).
THE YOUNG REPUBLIC - two more FREE download covers (24.07.08)
Following on from the first free cover, which was a cover of Bob Dylan’s Isis, please find ready for download covers of Television’s See No Evil and Tom Waits’ Tango Til They’re Sore. And we're also very happy to welcome The Young Republic back to End of the Road Festival in September, as well as a headline show at the 100 Club on 16th September.
We are so proud to release the first UK single by Woodpigeon, from Calgary, Canada. It's available as a limited edition 7" and for download, title: "That Was Good But You Can Do Better", B-side: "Knock Knock". You can get the single from most good record shops such as Rough Trade, Piccadilly, Rounders and more. Please check out the band on their Woodpigeon myspace. Mark Hamilton (Woodpigeon) will be supporting The Young Republic at Borderline in London on 14th May, as well as doing a few more shows across the UK and Europe. Please come and join us at the shows - we can't wait!
The Young Republic - FREE download of Isis (15.04.08)
After moving back to Nashville, and building their own studio, The Young Republic have been busy recording. As the guys enjoy not just playing their own tunes, but also playing great songs by people like Hank Williams, Chuck Berry, Television and more, we are giving away a free download of one of these covers every month, starting with Isis by Bob Dylan. To our delight Isis also forms part of The Young Republic's live set sometimes, and you can feel the energy and raw, yet beautiful, power in this live studio recording. Isis is no longer available as it's for a limited time only, but please check out the next two covers above.

Following on from their appearance our appearance in the last issue of Clash as part of the End of the Road Records Feature, we are proud to announce that The Young Republic are one of Clash Magazine’s tips for 2008.
Also, no doubt due to their almost-legendary performance (according to the Middlesborough Evening Gazette at least) at The Knights last year, NARC magazine has also made The Young Republic a tip for 2008.
Q magazine made ‘Paper Ships’ one of it’s top downloads of the month in this months issue.
Girl In A Tree available on Word Magazine ‘Now Hear This’ Compilation edition..
Anyone who has been around any of us here at End of the Road will know that we have a huge love and respect for the great Charlie Parr. Finally, after 2 years of trying to persuade him, we are proud to announce we will be releasing ‘Worried Blues’ as a 7” single later on this year- Keep your eyes on the artist pages for more news about this forthcoming release
Following their triumph at End of the Road Festival in 2007, we are pleased to announce that Calgary’s Woodpigeon will be releasing new single “That was good but you can do better” through End of the Road in 2008. With an influences list that reads:
water falling on hot rocks
snow falling on dead trees
pianos rusting in country fields
madonna 45's played at 1/2 speed
oh. and the sound samples most likely playing on your computer right now. like that.
And comparisons to the symphonic sprawl of Sufjan Stevens and the hush melodies of Elliot Smith we ar looking forward to big things from Woodpigeon
(Woodpigeon will be in the UK in May for the Great Escape festival in Brighton). Keep your eyes on the Artists page for more info soon!
